Company

Cabra d’Ouro was founded in May 1990 by the Hulshof family from Lievelde, the Netherlands. By 1991, the necessary facilities were completed, and the owners began milking goats and producing cheese. Initially, they focused on the traditionally Dutch Gouda cheese, but soon added the typical Portuguese “Queijo Fresco” to their offerings.

At that time, producing fresh cheese year-round was a unique feature, leading to a rapid increase in sales, especially in Coruche and the Leiria region through resellers. In 2008, the introduction of Queijo ‘Campestre’ marked the beginning of sales in Lisbon.

Our Origin

The number of goats, and consequently the milk production, has gradually increased to meet the growing demand.

Over the years, as the Hulshof family grew older, they decided to start the sale process. In 2023, Cabra d’Ouro was taken over by the Nagel family, also Dutch, but living and working since 2017 on the Vale de Leite dairy farm in Montemor-o-Novo. With the same passion, they continue the tradition of producing high-quality dairy products.
